What is water desalination?
You might have heard of desalination, but what is it exactly and is desalinated water safe? Desalination is a water supply option that is used widely around the world and involves taking the salt out of the water to make it drinkable. Desalination can be used as a more reliable way as a water supply instead of being dependant on rain. However, water desalination isn’t the easiest way to filter water and make drinking water. It’s a method that is used in the world but not adopted globally yet. Desalinated water is safe to drink that’s why it’s a good way to filter water. Even for companies that make Industrial uses of water,
How does it work?
There are currently 2 main methods for water desalination that are used to make desalinated water. Both methods work very well to produce desalinated water. The desalination process current is involved in both processes.
- The first method is: Distillation, here the water simply gets boiled until the gets vaporized and are separated from the remaining salt.
- The second method is Membrane Processes, this is a more recent method and more widely used. During this process, the water and salt are separated using pores so tiny it filers the water.
Why is desalination a good idea?
There are of course many obvious reasons why desalination is good. It is an effectice way to secure water supplies, let’s say during climate changes and droughts. This way we can produce a climate-independent source of water, for human needs.
